I feel like I've ingested a fair amount of southern food recently. Last night, I had a country fried steak, which is a thin pork chop (I think?), deep fried and covered with gravy. And it was on a piece of Texas toast, served with corn and cheese broccoli casserole. I ate ALL of it...not just the steak and not just the sides...the freaking entire thing. And it was massive too! My co-worker said this restaurant's portion sizes were enough for two or three meals. Oh well, so much for that.
Then tonight after work, a couple of us from the station went to "Steak and Shake". When I first saw this restaurant, I literally Laughed Out Loud because...what the heck?! Steaks and shakes?! It reminded me of the Pasadena staple "Pie and Burger", but helloooo, that totally works! Anyway, I got the burger, which then reminded me I missed "In N Out" burgers, and fries...and I subsequently ate the entire thing (it was alright).
Question one, why am I eating so much? Question two, what other southern food do I still need to conquer? More legitimate fried chicken? Ribs? GRITS?? I don't know about the last one, egads.
I miss Asian food though. I thought about ramen the other day...then I started day-dreaming about DaiKoKuya and Chin-Mya. And why didn't I fill up on more dim sum before I came out here? I don't even know the next time I'll get decent dim sum. I was also telling some people from work about Korean BBQ...and then I remembered how I wanted to try a new Korean BBQ place before I left but ran out of time.
Bowling Green may say it has the most restaurants per capita/square mile/whatever...but I need more diversity than "American food"...I gotta get me some food diversity!
