The last time I went to Nashville, to say it went disastrously would be giving it too much credit. My second official trip there went a lot lot better. For one, I had the most delicious BBQ! And right there, Nashville Take Two already beat Nashville Take One.
Jack's BBQ was pretty legit with its amazing, melt-in-your-mouth pork shoulder (my gosh!). The sides (mac and cheese, coleslaw, and corn bread) were pretty good as well but this pork shoulder just stole the show. I love meat and I love good meat....and this was definitely good meat!! That coupled with three awesome sauces (smoky, vinegar, sweet) can be summed up in one word: amazing!
The rest of my trip was really just random walking down Broadway, which reminded me slightly of Third Street Promenade in LA, with its tourist-y stores selling Nashville souvenirs (fun nevertheless, don't get me wrong) and lots of restaurants. But the best were the signs in the storefronts. Maybe cause I'm not used to this stuff and not used to the different types of things sold here, but I thought they were awesome!
And of course, it's Nashville, it's Music City, so there were lots of musically-themed attractions on the street. As I walked down Broadway, there were actually a couple musical acts playing random afternoon concerts in the restaurants. I didn't go inside any of those restaurants because the awesome BBQ filled me up, but I definitely want to give it a try next time. I love random music in random restaurants, as can be evidenced in me giving super props to the giant guitar on the sidewalk.
I also saw, emphasis on the word "saw" and not "went inside", the County Music Hall of Fame and Museum. I'm too poor right now to pay admission to a museum saluting country music. But I did peruse the Country Walk of Fame. I obviously knew barely anyone on the Walk of Fame...the only one I recognized, and only for the celebrity of the name and not for the music, was Jimi Hendrix.
I also saw the symphony but I guess the flood got it really good cause disaster trucks were still outside cleaning it up, probably tearing out whatever got damaged or was molding inside from the flood.
Anyway, it was a quick trip, nothing too crazy...I still gotta figure out the layout and feel of the city...but this poster I saw right before I left pretty much sums up how awesome I feel Nashville is:
