The P-Units Touch Down

This weekend, I saw my parents for the first time since I graduated last year! It's been a long time...circumstances kept me from going back for Christmas and any time after that so I had been looking forward to this weekend for a long time. In usual parental style, they said they were going to come down to KY when I first moved here in February, then when they realized I had moved and settled in on my own, they didn't think they needed to come down. After a slight confrontation with my dad after their lack of parental support, they booked their tickets and made it down this weekend!

They touched down in Nashville Friday morning but since I work until pretty late at night, they took their sweet time getting here (Nashville's about an hour away). They perused the city (and saw and know more than I do about Nashville) and tried to find the Chinatown (there isn't one). I had told them about the flooding but I don't think they realized the extent of it until they were trying to get around and kept being told they couldn't go there because of the flood damage or high waters!

Speaking of which, here are some pictures I took of the flood-recovery efforts in Nashville when I dropped them off at the airport:

This is the outside of Opry Mills, a really nice mall in Nashville, it was completely flooded and I believe the stores got swamped with water.

This is still outside Opry Mills. The trucks outside it have "Catastrophe Truck" written on them.

Some roads are still closed off because of all the waters. You can't tell but the streets were brown because of all the dirt the floods washed onto the road.

Anyway, when they finally made it to BG a full 6 hours after they landed, it was just so good to see them. I've been away from home for more than 5 years now so I had gotten used to not being there, not physically being with my parents and I don't get particularly homesick, but it was just so good to actually see them not on a computer screen (I Skype a lot with them) but actually in person!

Their next mission while I finished up work? My mom was going to cook me lots and lots of Chinese food!! I haven't had her cooking in a while and all the times I go home, we always go out to eat, so I was so ready to just massacre whatever food she made. When I got home later that night, they had turned my kitchen upside-down! All of a sudden, there were lines of fruit on my counter and I suddenly had all these Chinese sauces I didn't have before AND they stocked an entire shelf with ramen!! My heart be still.
