Fruit Picking...Or Not, That's Cool Too

There's an orchard in town where you can go and pick your own fruit. We're talking apples, peaches, that kind of thing. I was super stoked to take Stanley there, does it GET any more Kentucky to go fruit-picking? But alas, the actual "fruit-picking" portion of the orchard was not yet "ripe" for visitors. Like my play on words there?

Needless to say, I was disappointed because I really wanted to pick some sweet peaches! But the best thing about a great travel buddy is they know that things don't always have to go according to plan for a fun time to be had. Sometimes the best travels, the best adventures, and the best talks are the ones you don't necessarily plan on having.

We bought a jar of apple butter, which I later found out didn't even include an dairy product (!?), it's just pureed apple, and then sat down on a bench to talk. I don't know if it's the nice air, the bright blue skies or what, but I was totally content just sitting on the bench, talking, enjoying the cool breeze on the ridiculously hot day and just soaking in (literally, the UV rays) the beautiful day.

We stood by the edge of this small little lake out there on the orchard. It wasn't anything special, I mean, I lived in LA, I've seen the water's edge before, but it was nice and it was still and it just fit the day. Calm and pretty, that's the way I like my bodies of water.

Then we wandered around the orchards. Even though we couldn't pick the fruit, who said we couldn't walk by the fruit, look at the fruit? Why waste a perfectly good trip to the orchard? We meandered up and down the rows of apple and peach trees. I think they were just starting to bloom/grow/whatever fruit do and it was exciting to see the beginnings of what will soon become tasty, tasty fruit.
