Second Half of the Weekend

Picking up from my last post...Sunday was a great day! I went to my first-ever ATV race! Bowling Green is apparently a hot spot for ATV racing and, since a 9-time national ATV racing champion is from around here, one of the top ATV race courses is right in town.

I went partially to do a story (the dangers, thrills, and safety of ATV racing) but also partially because I was curious. ATV racing is not exactly on my list of hobbies so I wanted to see what it's all about.

And let me just say right now...IT'S INTENSE!

Just watching those racers fly through the air, omigosh, I was nervous for them. They go at speeds of like 40/50 mph and when you think about all the crazy turns they have to take on race courses and the jumps they take off the bumps in the course and trying to not run into other racers...it's a lot to think about.

There were a couple races that took place while I was there but one of my favourite parts was when all the ATVs lined up and got ready to start a race. It's just a line and at first, it's silent. Then the ATVs all start to rev their engines and it gets pretty loud then the flag goes up, and they take off and literally just leave the dust behind!

I guess my time there can probably be summed up best by my reporter package: Dangers of ATV Racing Thrust to Center Stage

  1. I rode in Mexico once and one of my friend fell from it. It was super fun but dangerous. Informative blog especially the southern slang one. Great work Julia!
