Hockey is not a national pastime in Canada. It's a religion. And the intense religiosity of it only becomes more apparent when Canada plays the US. For us, it's more than a game, it's a matter of national pride. It's playing against everything the US represents and standing up for the underdog.
A couple weeks ago Team Canada faced off against Team USA in the World Junior A Hockey Challenge in Penticton. I went down to do a story on it and really got swept away from all the Canadian spirit and patriotism.
