Remembrance Day

It's been a long time since I've been in Canada for Remembrance Day. I spent a couple Veterans Days in the States but it was completely different to be back home and in the presence of Canadian veterans who fought for the country.

I got to cover the Remembrance Day ceremony in downtown Kelowna for the station. We were right by the lake, with the mountains in the backdrop and it was a great setting for veterans to march into. Remembrance Day is actually a statutory holiday in BC so there were thousands of people there and I could tell that their support meant a lot to the veterans. Every year, more and more veterans pass away. I heard that this was the first Remembrance Day there weren't any living WW1 veterans and it's really sad when you think about it...that the people who gave up everything so we could live in a more peaceful world are no longer around.
