Blast from the Past

Have you ever had a moment where you went...wait a second...Yeah, gotta love those moments eh? I had one this past weekend. I was working and I was driving around Kelowna with my cameraman when all of a sudden, we saw the above group of singers on the side of the street holding an impromptu Christmas carol concert.

The thoughts in my head went from "Huh? What?" to "Their costumes are amazing" to "Wait, they're singing Christmas carols?" all within a span of two seconds. This group was made up of voice students who, under the direction of their voice teacher (the woman on the far right) were singing Christmas carols in the classical bel canto style.

From a journalistic point of view, I love stumbling upon random things like this that make you pause for a second. And on the plus side, it was something new and different we could include in our newscast. And from a normal human being point of view (yeah journalists aren't really normal human beings), it's so wonderfully festive! To have this ensemble just chilling on the side of the road, singing old school Christmas carols as cars and trucks drive by, just because they want to share some Christmas spirit essentially embodies the mood of the holiday season.
